Knowledge of the Soul
I too have seen the darkened resident
Encompassing the soul in mortal beings,
Have felt the lash, the sting of wounding words
The anger rising from the wells of hate
To flood all living things with toxic waste;
But I have seen the light in women's eyes
The strength of purpose and the truth in men,
Unconquered joy in poverty's despair
And children laughing through the world's disgrace.
I know that there shall come a lasting peace
Though only now Evil's face is seen,
For we shall overcome the limiting mind,
The lust that spent is never satisfied,
The need to dominate, the endless greed –
All shall be changed as darkness turns to light
And enemies in mutual embrace
Walk from the littleness of warring tribes
And ignorance that fuelled the fires of fear
To recognize the oneness in all things.
I know because there is a faith in me
That is not less than knowledge of the soul
And death and dying passages of grace
That lead the psychic part through all our lives
And takes us to a sacred resting place
To be renewed and made whole once again
And one day shall be recognized as guide,
One who resides in us and shall reveal
The golden dawn and break the golden seal
Protecting us from light too strong to bear
That we may grow in consciousness and dare
The unscaled peaks and joy beyond compare.
